A few years ago when this community started forming and Skimm’bassadors became a thing, we set up something called Skimm’r of the Week.

It was a program to highlight people in theSkimm community changing the world. The goal? Bring visibility to these Skimm’rs, causes, and companies. And as theSkimm’s grown, there’s more of that to go around. There’s more power to spotlight people doing amazing things, and more people to get involved and make change happen.

Through Skimm’r of the Week, this community has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for charity, bought thousands of products that give back, and more.

Some of our Skimm’rs of the Week have included…

Abigail Fabiaschi, founder of Empower Her Network, which raises money for victims of human trafficking. In one morning, Skimm’rs raised $82,000 for the cause.

Mebrat and charity:water. Mebrat’s a 30-year-old mother of six in Ethiopia whose entire family helps collect clean, safe drinking water. Skimm’rs in turn raised more than $200,000 in one day for charity:water.

Alyssa Carter, who started a recovery fund to raise money for relatives caught in the Boston marathon bombing in 2013. One of them had to have her legs amputated. The other would’ve died if it weren’t for the heroes who saved her. We gave Alyssa a platform to thank these heroes and raise money for her loved ones after the horrific events.

Genevieve Piturro, who founded the Pajama Program. It donates PJs and bedtime stories to kids in shelters and foster care. We raised more than $8,000 for the program in just a few hours.

Skimm’r of the Week came full circle at the end of last year when we ended up partnering with the Pajama Program for a book drive. Our community donated and delivered 6,461 books to kids who need them across the country.

It reminded us of the power of this community to not only inspire us, but to take action and affect communities around us.

Skimm’rs sent HQ so many childhood reads during 2017 Book Drive we had to clear out a conference room

What we’ve decided to do…

Every week for the rest of the year we’ll be featuring a Skimm’r of the Week in the Daily Skimm (aka more than 6.5 million subscribers). And at the end of the year, we’ll choose a Skimm’r of the Year…it’s our version of Best Picture. But with a teal carpet.

Skimm’bassadors and Skimm HQ’ers will vote, and a winner will be announced at the end of this year. The prize? A LOT of visibility to the Skimm’r of the Year’s organization.

If you or a Skimm’r you know is involved with an organization or project that sounds like a fit, let us know here.

Cheers,

theSkimm
